The Meaning of Birthstones
For each month of the Gregorian calendar, there is a specific stone assigned-- the birthstones. Here are the birthstones listed by the month they represent and the meaning behind each stone.
1. January- Garnet
The Garnet's bright red color is associated with blood. It was believed to bestow good health upon the wearer of this stone. The garnet is also believed to provide protection against nightmares and against the potential dangers hiding in the dark. A person choosing the garnet as a favorite gem is said to possess great patience and the capability to prevail against hardships. 2. February - Amethyst.

3. March.- Aquamarine

4. April- Diamond
The diamond is known as the stone of strength, innocence, and longevity. The diamond is symbolic of success and excellence. It is also thought to attract good fortune. The diamond is also said to bring forth honour and purity of its wearer encouraging truthfulness at all times.
5. May - Emerald
The emerald is a gemstone of peace and healing. It is believed to grant good health and also protects the wearer against illness. The wearing of emerald is also said to provide a higher level of foresight and bestows the power to communicate well with other people.
6. June - Pearl
The pearl is the only stone in the group that comes from a living creature-- the oyster. Because June is traditionally the month of weddings in the Western world, the pearl became associated with successful marriages, coupled with loyalty, faith, and peaceful life.
7. July-- Ruby
Its blood-red color symbolizes courage, strength and vitality. The ruby is also believed to nurture in its wearer personal contentment and integrity. The ruby is likewise believed to inspire harmony with others.
8. August - Peridot
The peridot is believed to bring an intensified sense of dignity upon its wearer, thus attracting good fortune. It is also thought to give its wearer protection against wicked intentions and against the terrors of the night.
9. September-- Sapphire
The Sapphire is believed to build wisdom and lucidity of thought in its wearer, giving him or her the discernment to discover truth regardless of how deeply it is hidden. The sapphire also inspires its wearer to develop peace of mind and serenity in the wearer's soul.
10. October- Opal
The varying colors of the opal symbolizes depth of emotions. Anyone who wears the opal is believed to be granted the ability to empathize with a fellow person. A persons born in the opal month looks at life with a sense of hope, subtly burning with an inner fervour.
11. November -Topaz
The topaz represents health in body and mind. Wearing the topaz is believed to speed up a person’s power to heal his or her own body during illness or injury. It is also thought to bring out practicality and creativity in its wearer.
12. December - Turquoise
The turquoise is believed to bring prosperity and luck to its wearer, which is also timely for the coming New Year. This gem is also said to shun negative vibrations that can block the wearer’s happiness and good fortune.
